I was talking to a friend telling them how much I sold a litter for. They said I must be making a lot of money. If they only knew. If I made $500 profit from each litter, in order to make $5000 dollars a year I would 10 litters. Three pups per litter 30 pups, almost a litter every month. As you can see this is not a small operation, would cost quite a bit, and take some time. The PriceWhy are the prices for the dogs so much? First thing to consider is the fact that you are buying ten to fifteen years of companionship. If I ever write a Breeders section you will find out why I won't get rich sell dogs. You have read the reasons on other web pages or will. What I want to do here is explain the reasons for the price of my Dachshunds. There is a base price per dog. This price is composed of; cost to produce liter (stud fee, medical),and maintenance cost (food, health check ups for mom). This price may vary. If my cost are $1500 and the liter size is three the base price is $500, if liter size is four then the base price is $375. There is the specific price or price for particular Dachshund. This is the price for the type of Dachshund that you would like. Color, pattern, and sex play a part. If you purchase the Dachshund for breeding and show or for just a pet also must be considered. Also this covers reinvestment and recovery costs, those that improve the Dachshunds environment, health testing, and others. Types of RegistrationFull - This means that you can breed the dog, and show the dog. Limited - Limited Registration means that the dog is registered but no litters produced by that dog are eligible for registration. A dog registered with an AKC Limited Registration shall be ineligible to be entered in a breed competition in a licensed or member dog show. Puppies with limited registration will be sold at a discounted price.
